Day 16: Be with Me Lord

There is a familiar Christian hymn titled, Be with me Lord. Here is my favorite version.

Over time, I have learned that this song is less of a request and more of a reminder.

Jesus tells us before he leaves earth, “And behold, I am always with you, to the end of age.” (Matthew 28:20). We can all recall moments when we felt the presence of the divine, especially when we needed it the most.

Accepting and believing that God is already with us, we can take our next steps with confidence. We can proceed knowing that God is not a prayer away- he is already here.

As dads, to know we are being led by the Almighty brings comfort.

We do need time, however, to discern that it is truly God who we are following, and not that of the world.

A simple test is if our thoughts, words, and actions rooted in love for all. If it excludes, judges, condemns, or hurts any one or any thing, it is not of God.

Let us discern our thoughts and actions, and let us continue to ask God to be with us, knowing God is already there.

May we be be reminded that we never walk alone.
