All You Need is Love

Nearly 60 years ago, The Beatles sang, “All You Need is Love.” And although love can often be simplified and romanticized, this doesn’t change the fact that those four lads from England were right.

The older I grow, and the more life, sickness, and death I experience, I conclude that so much of our and the world’s problems reflect our own failure to truly appreciate and accept God’s love.

If only we saw the divine love that lives within us and within all others, we would be on the path of peace. It must start with our own relationship with God, truly believing we are unconditionally loved by our creator, our source of life. Once we “get it,” our lives are transformed.

We would then look at others, and the Christ in me would meet the Christ in you. Strangers would be neighbors, and those we do not understand would no longer provoke fear.  Violence and exclusion would no longer follow; rather, we would desire understanding, appreciation, empathy, and inclusion.

At a time of great division, hate, and hurt, let us return to the power of this divine love that flows through us all.
